Internet Safety for children with special needs

by Anna
(special-need-child-Canada.com)

Surfing the internet, along with social networking sites like Facebook, My Space and Twitter, can introduce new dangers to kids that they are probably unaware of.

In addition to stumbling across content that is totally inappropriate for children, there are issues of privacy invasion, cyber-bullying and even cyber-stalking.

And most young Internet users have a poor understanding of the long-term effect of information and photos that are posted on the web.

For children with special needs, all of these concerns can be magnified, as they may be more targeted for abuse, and possibly less able to identify risks.

Teaching internet safety to special needs children is fast becoming a wise prerequisite to going online.

If you're in the greater Toronto area, then you'll probably be interested in a new service that offers free seminars on Internet Safety for tweens and teens.

The seminars are provided by Kiwi Seminars, and they hope to extend their service across Canada.

If you feel your school or group could benefit from this information, you can arrange for a free seminar, or get information that can perhaps help you set up your own seminar if you're not in the Toronto area.
